MJ - 125 - Drive My Car

Dave: [00:00:00] This is Dave,

Reese: this is Reese,

Dave: and this is Manic Joy, a podcast about

Reese: life,

Dave: love,

Dave & Reese: and UNC uncertainty.

I done fucked up. I totally didn't see where, what screen? I had the thing on and hit that button and the laughter went, and I was like, you know what? Let's just let it go.

Reese: Oh, is that what happened?

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: Okay.

Dave: Yeah,

Reese: that's Sure. I, okay. Cheers.

Dave: Oh, cheers. Okay. Wait. Before we

cheer, we're drinking a El Camino.

Because on today's episode, we're gonna talk about. Cars.

Reese: We [00:01:00] like the car.

Dave: So here we go.

Reese: The cars that go, boom,

Dave: El Camino. Let's try this and then we'll tell you what it is.

Reese: That's interesting.

Dave: Oh,

Reese: it,

Dave: that's actually not bad.

Reese: It ha it So the first sip, I'm like, this is really good. I'm like, uhoh aftertaste happening. And then it was a good aftertaste.

Dave: That's actually not bad. So I've gotta say this. I had to do a substitution.

Reese: Oh.

Dave: Because we didn't have orange bitters.

Reese: Okay.

Dave: So I used lemon bitters instead.

Reese: Okay.

Dave: So with the orange, I bet this would actually have a, a,

Reese: how are you saying that word?

Dave: Orange?

Reese: Is that how you say it?

Dave: Orange. Now I'm ghosting you.

Reese: Orange.

Dave: Orange.

Reese: Orange.

Dave: I didn't mean ghosting. What's the other word I'm trying to say?

Reese: Wow. Gaslighting.

Dave: There we go. I'm gas ghosting. You

Reese: gas ghosting.

Dave: I'm ghost lighting. You

Reese: listen, when you come back as a ghost, you're gonna be gas ghosting me. For sure. For sure. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be like, why does it smell like farts?

Dave: So this is Tequila Amaro and a dash of Orange Bitters. In our case, [00:02:00] we used lemon bitters.

Reese: Ooh.

Dave: Stir that and served that over a big cube.

Reese: Yep.

Dave: You'll find the recipe on manic joy.com under featured cocktails.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: To go with episode number 1 25.

Reese: Wow.

Dave: I think that's where we are.

Reese: 1 25. That's a lot. Episode.

Dave: If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. God dammit.

Reese: The fuck are we talking about for

Dave: I know.

Reese: Hundred 2,500 episode I, hundred 20.

Dave: Thanks for being with us every step of the way.

Reese: Ed and Sharon.

Dave: Aw.

Reese: Sometimes Sarah.

Dave: Deb, sometimes Deb.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: Yeah. We love you guys.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: I want everyone to understand that. If you feel like Reese is a little off, she's not up to par with her game today. As we talk through our discussion , Reese, just let the people know why you're so sad.

Reese: What are you talking about?

Dave: Let me just say this. Chicken fingers. Puritan Backroom.

Reese: Ugh,

Dave: There it is.

Reese: Why would you bring it up?

Dave: There it is.

Reese: I totally forgot [00:03:00] about it.

Dave: You haven't stopped talking about it for the last two days.

Reese: I know. Days, but for a brief second just now. I just forgot about it.

Dave: Aw. Well

Reese: Dude, it's not funny.

Listen, you know what? I'm not even ashamed of it. It, I don't even care that you think it's funny.

Dave: That's the funny part.

Reese: I am, I'm a little upset that I. The cast of Jersey Shore was at the Puritan Diner in New Hampshire.

Dave: Puritan Backroom.

Reese: In, in uh uh, Manch Vegas.

Dave: Oh, yeah. What you calling it?

Reese: Which is what Emily says. I'm pretty sure that's probably derogatory and not funny, but it is funny to me. And they were there, they were all there. It seemed like there wasn't like a lot of people. So had I known,

Dave: had you known

Reese: I would've gotten my ass there and I would've been in like a pig and shit, I would've been so happy.

Dave: I'm more disa in the fact that you didn't know.

Reese: Not even a little bit, not even a clue. I don't know how I missed out on it. I'm [00:04:00] usually, yeah, I'm on the top of my game finding out useless information and normally I'd be like, oh, that's cool. 'cause they're always, there's always like someone filming or whatever, either like close to where we are or in Boston and I'm like, that's cool, but.

All of them. The situation.

Dave: Yep.

Reese: Snooky.

Dave: Yep.

Reese: Pauly, Vinny, we, Ron, Sammy. Sweetheart. They were all there. Wow. I could have worn my parties here. Shirt. Oh God.

Dave: Oh, you could have, you could have. I got a surprised for you ladies. Gentlemen. Please welcome the cast of, imagine they keep walking in like Peppa to just slink through the door.

Reese: Yes. They're little smokey's. Little yep. Little French

Dave: little bubble butt

Reese: tipped fingers trying to get through the door.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: Dude, that was doubly mean first you reminded me and then you made that joke. I was really, I was excited a second.

Dave: Did you, Did you get wow, he really came through for me.

Reese: I don't know what you might

be capable of. Yeah, Yeah. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

Dave: What are you going do?

Reese: Can't win 'em all.

Dave: You can't win 'em all. Well, Babe, I'm sorry [00:05:00] you missed out on your big opportunity.

Reese: Well,

Dave: To find out how you fare in Snooky size.

Reese: Since going on the themes of cars. One of my favorite movies.

I actually haven't watched it in a while, but God, what happened to my brain just now? So you got me tickets to see someone that I've seen. This will be my third time. So one of my favorite people I sent you, sometimes I send you things, messages when people are playing bands, whatever.

And just as a goof, just to see if, I don't know, you might wanna go and you're normally like, nah, I don't wanna go. You shocked the shit outta me. I'm looking up the car of a movie. That this person starred in. And it's one of my, it's one of my, like

Dave: the Ford Fairlane.

Reese: The Ford fairlane. Uh,

Dave: That was a good movie actually. I liked that movie.

Reese: It's honestly,

Dave: I would watch that movie

Reese: Peak andrew Dice [00:06:00] Clay. So I sent you a link. He's playing, where's he playing?

Dave: The Hampton casino Ballroom.

Reese: Yeah.

And

Dave: he's also

playing in in Boston. And I was looking at the different prices.

'cause the thing in Boston is like an actual theater. Whereas the Hampton Hampton Ballroom is just like an auditorium that they put seats in.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: Which is funny. But yeah, the prices at in Boston were much more expensive than the prices.

Reese: Oh really?

Dave: Yeah. It was like, I got good seats for half the price.

Reese: Oh, interesting.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: So I sent it to you as a goof and then all of a sudden,

Dave: and then I got it for you as a goof

Reese: and then you got it for me as a goof Snap ahead.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: I, so I'm excited. I saw him once when I think I was like 17 or 18 in Atlantic City with my mother during like peak Hickory Dickory doc nursery rhyme Andrew Dice Clay.

Then saw him again just before I moved here to catch up with you at the, where the cyclones play in Brooklyn. And it was funny. Obviously he was hilarious and now we're going [00:07:00] again. And I'm like obsessed with his tiktoks that he makes with John Lovett lately. They are fabulous and I actually made a comment and he liked it big day, but Ford Fairlane that movie I think we need to, we should watch it before we go see the show.

Dave: I could do that.

Reese: Yeah. So thanks for that.

Dave: You're welcome.

Reese: I kind of made up for making fun of me with the Jersey. Sure thing.

Dave: I'm glad I could help. Whatever. I'm glad I could help. Whatever. So the reason we're talking about cars, I'm gonna say flat out number one, I'm not a car guy.

Reese: Yeah. You're not a car guy. Well, You like whistles and bells and

Dave: well, I like, I like technology

Reese: tech stuff.

Dave: I like technology

Reese: but you're not into the cars itself.

Dave: But I'm not a car guy.

Reese: Yeah. Yeah.

Dave: So I don't really, I just need something to get me from point A to point B and I'm happy, which just explains my no frills Kia Rio.

Thank you very much everyone. Thank you. So we, the girls I guess this week we'll say Yeah. 'cause

Reese: this week, oh, this week it was this week.

Dave: Today is Saturday. And within a course of a week, the girls got cars.

Reese: They each got their own car.

Dave: Yeah. Very happy for them.

Reese: And it's cracking [00:08:00] me up because when Emily went and you took them both

to go test, drive and do all of that, which was great.

Dave: Not at the same time,

but we went different times,

Reese: two different times. So when Emily got the car, she got, it looks like the car that you have. And I'm like, oh, that's interesting.

And then today you sent me the picture of the car that Jonnie

Dave & Reese: got, kind of looks like, and it looks like my car, which Yeah.

Reese: I always say you got, Emily has your personality and Jonnie has mine, and it's just, it's really funny. But I'm so proud of them.

Dave: But I think that's the opposite, Jo.

Jonnie is more like me and Emily's more like you.

Reese: Yes. Certain ways.

Dave: But they have, but they also ways,

but then they also have

like things that are different.

Reese: And I'm, I'm just saying like, when it comes to certain and the opposite things. She's definitely, Emily. Definitely can be like you in certain ways.

Yeah. And Jonnie, yeah. Is like me when it comes to like aesthetics. Jonnie And I like sparkly, frilly things.

Dave: Oh. That I'll give you.

Reese: And you and Emily are a little bit more practical. Yeah. In that sense. Yeah. All she wanted was a moon roof. Emily.

Dave: She did. She got one.

Reese: She got one. And she named it Rita.

Dave: She named it [00:09:00] Rita.

Reese: Which I love.

Dave: And if you know the reference, which I don't think most people will, 'cause I would, I don't think I would've gotten that

Reese: 10 points if you got the reference. Yeah. If you could. The Ference, what's a TV show?

Dave: It's from a TV show

Reese: character on a TV show, which is,

no,

Dave: it's not a current TV show.

Right. Well I guess it is 'cause they've brought back in multiple ways. They keep doing it. So we'll give you a little cute clues. Yeah. That they've brought it back. But Rita is the character.

Reese: Yeah. And Jonnie didn't name hers yet. She's not sure. Yeah,

Dave: she's still, she's not sure. But I'm very excited about the cars they got.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: I got to ride Jonnie's car a little bit more than Emily's car, so I need to ride Emily's car again. But they both got really good cars. I like, they did their own research, they looked for different things. They, I like that they, they did a, they were like, okay, I'll get a used car. They did a, 20, 23 under 30,000 miles.

They followed all the, all the guidance. They did a really good job,

Reese: dude. They were,

Dave: I will recommend this site for people looking for cars. I like to use the US news car buyers like guide. So each year they do full reviews on all the cars, and then they [00:10:00] rank them in their class as to what is the best, and they give them ratings and all this stuff.

And they give you full reports on the different trims and the different styles and. Really good. I'm super excited for them. It's amazing they both just have cars now. And I was getting a little jealous because these cars, because they're 2023, they're all like updated tech, and so

Reese: Emily's got a fricking touch screen.

Dave: Yeah, like her whole dash is, she's got the fully electronic, so she ended up getting like a, she found a good deal on a trim that was like the, one of the top of the line trims, like before you get into like the bigger engines and stuff like that. So she got a Hyundai Elantra, and uh, it's a 2023 again under 30,000 miles.

Uh, Good deal. And yeah, it's got the, so it's got like the leather seats and the moon roof and all the balls and whistles and all that kinda shit.

Reese: The ball, the balls.

Dave: The balls and whistles.

Reese: They got the balls and whistles.

Dave: I hope not.

Reese: Oh my God. Hope not. And then balls and whistles.

Dave: And then Jonnie got a 2023 same situation.

Reese: Kona.

Dave: Good Miles. Hyundai Kona. Which I [00:11:00] actually really like, I'm like, Ooh, if I were to get a new car, I would be happy with the Kona.

Reese: I feel like you should upgrade at some point. I'm very happy with my car.

Dave: I'm, I'm gonna be look. We still got, I'm the type of person again because I don't really care about the cars.

I'm the type of person that I'll drive that until it dies.

Both our cars have a too lot mileage on them,

Reese: and I don't have to

because then I get completely distracted. Distracted. Yeah. So

Dave: you need less, less is more for you. I just,

Reese: less is more for me.

As long as I can get from point A to point B. But for them, what I really like in both the cars that they're newer. Yes. That there's all these safety features on there. Very cool. So it's one less thing I have to worry about driving.

Dave: So this will make drive this make you feel good.

So when we took the, took Jonnie's car on the road today.

So Jo, so when we went with Emily, it was for some reason a huge fucking snowstorm came through the day. We were supposed to go I four kids and it snowed like first thing in the morning. So we trudged through the snow to get to this place. So she didn't, she just did that kind of local street driving. We didn't get on the highway at all.

And

Reese: I wanna preface that it's April.

Yeah. And we just snowstorm, but that's fine.

Dave: So [00:12:00] Jonnie went on the highway 'cause she wanted to, and I was like, yeah, let's try that. So the car drives great and it's got like good pickup. I'm used to the cars where you're like, okay, I'm getting on the highway now.

And you're like, you gun it and just hope you get up to speed. Yeah. Car went great, did a really good job, but it's got the lane assist on it. So you turn that on. And the guy was like, okay, so I'm gonna press this button. You press that button there. Okay, now you're gonna have to just trust me.

And he goes, let go of the wheel. And so Jonnie, let's go with the wheel. And the car automatically keeps you in the lane. Look at your face if you could see Reese's face right now. So that's one of the safety features.

Reese: Wow.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: Okay.

Dave: So it's got all the things, it's got the cameras. Lets you know when someone's on your side lets you know of when you're backing up and someone's gonna cross.

Reese: And my whole thing is, is I'm not scared of them driving 'cause they're good drivers. I am more nervous about the oos on the road.

Dave: Sure.

Reese: That, throw caution to the wind or they're in a rush or they're distracted or drunk or stoned or whatever they are.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: But I'm not worried [00:13:00] about them. But knowing that both their cars have these protective features of

Dave: Yeah, definitely a big upgrade. Yeah. It's kind of funny too, we were laughing because both of the girls, because we've had, I mean if I think of the cars that I've had and they've been able to drive, the first was that would've been that Ford focus when they were driving.

And that was like a beater car that I got because I, my other car got totaled. And so I had to get a replacement, and so I just did like a cash replacement, right? So the car was worth I got it for $5,000 or something like that. And so this was a car that when you drove it, if you started to go too fast, like everything inside started to vibrate and shake and make a loud noise.

And so it was kind of, you know, you had to really get into it to turn the wheel and stuff. Like, it was, It was just one of those. And but

Reese: it was good that they had a car like that to start with.

Dave: Well, that's what I'm saying. And then we have this piano at the house that's like an old piano and like none of the key, like the keys are like, you gotta get in there, you gotta work it, right?

Yeah. And similarly we're just Yeah. You're used to like working for things, right? Yeah. And the, and like even Jonnie [00:14:00] was like it feels like so weird to drive a car that's like easy. Like I don't want it to feel too easy. I'm like, yeah, I get it.

But if you think about driving the Ford to the Kia. That's just a slight upgrade and it's drives a little better and it's a little bit easier to use and all that stuff. And you feel fine with that? And she's like, yeah. I was like this is now what you're driving is a step up from the Kia.

And so you'll just get used to that as you guys to do it. But like you, I love that they like, neither of them want the technology to make them lazy when they drive. You know what I mean? So I'm like, that's cool. But anyway, I'm so psyched for them. It's so amazing to,

Reese: it's gonna be so good. I was like, in my head I'm like, oh, it's gonna be an interesting summer with the cars. There's gonna be four cars. Yeah. And managing that. But then I'm also like, now that they have cars, they're not gonna be home at all this summer. They're gonna be. Driving around in their car. 'cause why wouldn't you?

The second I got a car of

Dave: Yeah,

Reese: I was never home.

Dave: I'm, I was

Reese: out and about all the time.

Dave: I'm happy that they can do [00:15:00] it. I'm also glad that we don't have to go pick them up all the time now. Right now they're free to get to where they need to go without us being involved.

Reese: And I'm also glad that we live in a place where when I first got my car, I can't even tell you how many times I hit the side mirror into trees, into parked cars, into I banged it into everything because when you're in New York, in Brooklyn, you got a parallel park everywhere.

So there was always something that I was like banging the, now the, we live in a place where it's like parking is pretty spread out, so we don't have to worry about that. I know it's gonna, it's gonna be interesting to see. And they'll be able to take themselves to work.

Dave: I know. So this is all great.

Reese: And then get themselves back home.

Dave: And then they were, we were talking about like, oh, when we go to the family reunion over the summer, they were like, if the boys are gonna come, we had already said somebody else is gonna have to drive. And so they were like, oh, we can do that now. Yeah. So we could just decide between the four of us

Reese: drive, oh, they're gonna love driving in Jersey.

Dave: Ugh. Ugh. It's such, it's so gross. So anyway, I wanted to [00:16:00] mention, because again, I like to do the good shout outs to people, but let's just talk about the car buying process. Maybe let's just talk about that.

Reese: Yeah, let's talk about that. Because I heard from both girls Yeah. That you, they all did.

But you especially had a good experience

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: At the dealership.

Dave: Yeah. We had a very good experience, which I'm very glad about because I told them and I told them like, these things can be weird. I also told them what to look out for and then like how part of this is a game. Where it's gonna be like a back and forth thing, and you just gotta go through it.

I've gotten better in my old age with I've already once I earmark the time for something, I'm like okay with it. It's just when I'm like, maybe I thought it would be done by now and it's not done yet, that then I get antsy. You know what I mean? Yeah. But we, yeah, we both had a really great time.

'cause I love, again, Emily did her research so Emily was funny 'cause you know how Emily is when if she does something one time, like she's the immediate, she's the epitome of, I mean, this in a good way. She's the epitome of [00:17:00] the first grader teaching the kindergartner something. She's I did this and I can show you what to do.

So the minute like. Jonnie, like she bought her car before Jonnie, and so she's Jonnie, you gotta go do this. Yeah. And you gotta go do that. And you gotta, so she's, and then Jo she's you gotta send me pictures as soon as you get there.

You gotta let me know what's going on.

Reese: It's so cute. They're, it's so funny. They're their, it's great excitement for each other also. Yeah. Yeah. Was amazing.

Dave: They're, they're psyched for this 'cause they've been dying for a car, which is great.

Reese: I really thought that it was gonna be them sharing a car for a while, but you know what, this is good for them.

Dave: No, this is good. So we went to, so I'm gonna say where we went and then I wanna talk about your experience place. Emily, this was Emily. She found it, she found a car online that she wanted to take a look at because, and then, so what we were doing is, again, we were how I think through it and I was like, look, this is what I typically do.

So you can, do that if you want, but if you find a car that you like, one, you gotta know what price range you want to, like how much money you marked right. To say, this is my, how much I'm gonna spend. Then you look [00:18:00] for things in that price range and you've, you gotta look for. Usually a, you know, a year or two old and then like I said, under 30,000 miles you're gonna get a good deal there because the minute like the, now that they have these cars, they're worth less than what we just paid for them.

So like they do not appreciate value. They depreciate them. The minute you drive them off the lot. So like buying a new car, doing that it doesn't make any sense. So this way at least it saves you some money and you still get a perfectly good car, you always look for one owner, take a look at the Carfax, you can see if there's any damage, you can see if there's anything wrong.

So you get all the details. And this is the thing that's a lot different from back in the day is that you actually can come in with a lot more information. And so even while we were there, like the guy was showing us like different cars, right? To see what we would like and blah, blah, blah, blah.

And it's like the minute he shows us something, I can go right to the thing and be like, okay, this car is good, this car is this is what we want, like this is what we're looking for. So you have all of this information at your fingertips, which is really great. Typically you don't have that and you're particularly if you're not a car person, you don't know what to [00:19:00] look for.

These guys will take advantage of you. Like I talked about the experience in New York, for example. So whenever we went to get cars in New York, remember that one time like I walked out of the room 'cause I was like, you fucking piece of shit.

Reese: Was it the dealership that that was

Dave: the first one, the one your dad used to go to?

Reese: That's what I was, they were,

Dave: that guy was a complete he was like a fucking weasel snake.

So they

snapping his pen around and being like wow, wow. I'm not gonna do the math for you. I was like, fuck you, you fucking piece of shit.

Reese: The whole thing about that was upsetting is that my dad had been leasing cars from them and

Dave: I'm sure they were fleecing him a lot

Reese: for Probably, yeah, for the longest time.

'cause he was always like, listen, he was poor. He finally got a job. He had money. So he always wanted, he would always lease. He wouldn't buy. And anytime he went there and he would, his lease was up. He always wanted. The newest of whatever. Whatever, caddy, whatever. And it was all about stigma.

Yeah. And what it looked like. Like my dad was the car guy.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: He grew up as, when he was younger [00:20:00] cars, it was all about cars. So he knew how to talk brooklyny with these guys. Yeah. They were shitty when I had to return the car after my father died. And so they were shitty with all of that.

And then when we tried to get a car for ourselves, they were, it was bad. It was bad. Experie. Horrible. So on that front, even

Dave: the other time we got a car, when we got the Honda, which I love, the Honda the minivan was amazing. That was, that's probably the favorite car that we've ever had. We can talk more about that in a minute.

But even when we went there, those guys were douche bags. Yeah. And they were like doing shit and hiding fees and like trying to just fucking get. It just So that makes me angry.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: Because I'm all for, look, you make your money, I get a good deal. We, everybody feels good about the situation. And that's what I was saying to the girls.

I was like, look, if you feel uncomfortable, you don't feel right. You don't want to do anything. We're outta here. Don't you don't, we don't have to.

Reese: And you don't have to owe them anything. Don't

have.

Dave: And so [00:21:00] Emily's actually went, I think, a little bit smoother. Like we tried a couple of cars. She really liked one.

And then, we tried the others that she didn't like and then we actually ended up with something that she didn't go there to see.

Reese: Right.

Dave: Which was cool. And like I said, she got a good deal 'cause she got one with a higher trim. It is really good. It was under her budget.

Reese: She just really wanted that fricking moonroof.

Dave: Yeah. So it had all the, that's what I'm saying, they had all the things that she wanted and she felt good about making the purchase and I was like, that's all you want.

Reese: My favorite part though is to see. If she remembers all the time to close the moonroof after she uses it.

Dave: Oh, I know. That will be the funny thing.

Yes. Because she's got

Reese: leather seats. Yes. So yes, I know that the car, that will be the trick. Yeah. The car reminds her before she gets out that there, she has something in the backseat. So hopefully it fucking reminds her. Yeah. That the moonroof is open and she doesn't I love leave it open in Icle weather.

Dave: I love that. Now they're like, I'm like, yeah. So it's so this is where Jonnie is like me. So we're driving the car and she's you can drive it. So it's funny, I got to drive Emily's car. Like literally we went to eat, I got to drive it across the street. That's where, how [00:22:00] much I drove Emily's car.

Whereas Jonnie was like, okay, yeah, let's go eat. But she's you could drive. 'cause we went and do shopping.

Reese: She asked me too, do you wanna drive the car? I was like, no, you drive me. I wanna see how you do.

Dave: You can drive it. You can. And I was like, cool. I was like, all right, cool. Like actually I really like this.

I really, I felt really comfortable. In. Jonnie's car's a little higher off the ground than Emily's car is. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I don't like being like, it's a little lower than I think even, at least on the passenger side. When you're like trying to get outta the car, I'm like, oh, I gotta, it's reminds me of like my dad's car.

It's just too low to the ground for me. I don't like it that low to the ground. But anyway Jonnie on the other hand, it was funny. First we walk in there and I don't think the guy that we talked to, so we went to AutoFair Hyundai, I think you are. And this was in New Hampshire.

I think I, I forget what part of New Hampshire, but Auto AutoFair Hyundai I'll look it up and I'll include it in show notes or whatever. But they were they were good. We met a guy early Saturday morning when I went with Emily, showed us a few things, blah, blah, blah. Good. When we went to go pick it up, because we had to make the final payment or whatever and then pick it up, I [00:23:00] was like, okay, I'm gonna be looking for my other daughter.

I. And he was like, all right, why don't you come on Saturday, I'll, you'll be the first people I talk to that I can give you my full intention. And then we will I told him, we're in the same price range. We're looking for this, we're looking for that. So we got, he had a whole bunch of things lined up. He had something that came in the day before.

So he came in what Friday? Which was the one we ended up with, which was great. And this was, you could tell like this was somebody who like was on top of everything with the thing. And it was someone who like, yeah, they just brought it in. He's supposed to bring the second key in. And they were like, when he does, I'll mail it to you.

And Jonnie and I were like, I wanna meet this guy. 'cause, 'cause we were like, he's on top of it. Mm-hmm. Like doing all his oil changes. Mm-hmm. 'cause you can see all the service records and all that kind of stuff. And he, before, just as we were getting in the car, he is wait, the key's here? 'cause the guy brought the key in.

Mm-hmm. Like he said he would. Mm-hmm. Like, you know what I mean? We're like, oh, amazing. So with Jonnie it was interesting because he. So the cars, so the, I guess the Kona, he had said the Kona is like [00:24:00] a couple of, like couple of cars up from like the Elantra in terms of like where it sits. 'cause it's more of a subcompact SUV than a sedan.

And so this, again, the difference between the Kona is more like if my car and your car had a baby, right? So you could Ford Escape. I have a Kia Rio if that, those two got together. It's bigger than my car. Smaller than your car. It's like right in the middle. And then Emily's car is more like a fancy my car, if that makes sense.

Right. So we drove that first one first. Jonnie loved it. We're like, okay, cool, great. I'm like, this is the one to one to beat. Then we drove like another car, meh. She didn't really like it. She's like, yeah, no, I don't really like that. Then there was. Another car that was like a similar subcompact, SUV that we looked at and we're like, nah, I don't really like this.

And we were like, you know what? We knew the other car was there. We're like, let's drive that one. That was like another version of the [00:25:00] Kona. So it had the turbo engine and it was a little, it was a bluer, it was like a little sportier looking.

Reese: Yeah. She was excited that it was blue. So that was because that's her favorite color.

Dave: Well, so it was a sportier one that had the moon roof. So it had all a little bit more on the bells and whistle side, but like the other one had a lot of things too. So we're like, you know what, let's not drive that one. 'cause we don't really like the look of this and I don't wanna waste any more time.

Because you, again, this is one of those things you could be, you're gonna be there all day.

Reese: Right.

Dave: And which we were. Yeah, you, so we literally got outta there by, at noon. So we went and got lunch and then we had to do the shopping and then we had to swing back around actually. so the blue one.

We loved that too. And again, it had a little peppi your engine, like you could feel it, and again, had all like the nice little things like it looks a little sportier and it just feels a little nicer and all that kind of stuff. So we said, all right you know our budget, show us these two.

And so this is where the game starts, right? And so

Reese: yeah,

Dave: The salesman with us of course plays the good cop, and then the finance guy plays the bad cop. Right? Right. And then it's a

Reese: little dance. Everybody has it [00:26:00] choreographed. And

Dave: I was saying that what I would really appreciated with, with Jonnie is that, and I also, this is where she's me too.

She's honestly I don't really fucking care about any of this stuff. Like the stuff like, as long as it had like, it can't be where I need to go when I have like the basic things that's all I really want. And she like, she's yeah, I really like the blue one. But it was just way outside the price range of where we wanted to be, and we couldn't get to a place where I'm like, look, it's up to you ultimately because this is, your money that you're using to get this.

Reese: Which I give her a lot of credit for not pushing for more.

Dave: Yeah. So I had said, I said like,

Reese: and being reasonable,

Dave: I said, look like, well, it's different when it's your money, right? And

Reese: also very true.

Dave: So I was like, look, like if you feel comfortable spending that money, I'm not saying you can't, but I was like, that feels like too much.

Like we said, once you, you mark a, a specific thing for it, right? You feel like, okay, cool, like that's where you're gonna be. So we were like, okay, we can't make that work. That's not gonna happen. So [00:27:00] show us the other one. So the other one, again, a little lower on the trim level, still came out higher than we had wanted to spend.

And then we were like that's really not gonna work. And so he was like, all right let me see, if I can go back and do something. And I, and he, he went and he gave a price and then, then he,

Reese: it's like they go into the other room. Yeah. Yep. And they're just like Hey, what's going on?

Pretend like we're saying something and then having an argument and being really like doing a lot of gesticulation with our hands. So they think that we're working something out, but really we're not.

Dave: So Alex was our sales guy.

Reese: We're not, yeah.

Dave: Again, he was really good, hooked us up, was good to us, and, took care of us and showed us things that we wanted to see.

Then while he was away, I'm talking to Jonnie and I'm like, okay. Look, you have to figure out where you feel comfortable. And I was like, like, this is where we are. If you're okay, like I know you really like this car. I think it's a good car too, .

But we can't spend what they're asking for it. I'm like, if we say this number, it's over what we said we [00:28:00] were gonna spend. But I feel okay about spending that as long as you feel okay with it. We can go, if you can get it to here we'll do this right now.

And so that's what we said.

And so like, he was like, so this much, and I, and I signed a thing and I gave him my credit card. Like I gave him the card to

Reese: yeah.

Dave: Again, all part of the dog and pony show, like show 'em you're serious. Like the fight this guys. So then it was funny, and this is what I appreciated, because I had said to her, I go, but if they can't do it, then we have to be okay with walking away.

And she was like, okay. And I'm like, but at least now we know we like this and so we can go try to find it someplace else. And she was like, okay. She was totally cool with everything. I was like, all right, great. So he came back to us with, he went with the price we had said. Then the guy tried to do the, he's not even gonna meet you in the middle.

He's gonna meet you like, like a, in like just a third of what you in like instead of the middle, like a third. So it was like, it was only like $400 over what we said we would pay.

Reese: Right.

Dave: And then [00:29:00] we just looked at each other and we're like,

Reese: is it like the principal at this point?

Dave: No it wasn't, it wasn't so much that as much as it was like it's over what we said we were comfortable spending.

And you don't wanna leave there feeling like, ugh, I shouldn't have done like, you know what, you wanna leave feeling good about the thing. And so Jonnie was like, can I go see the car again? And he's like, absolutely sure. So we went back in the car and we sat in it for a while and while we were sitting in there like we didn't even drive it again, we just sat in it and I was like, look, here's what I think we do.

I say, I think we just go back in there. I was like, we got, we'll give it one last shot and we'll say, alright, we're already over what we said we would. We were comfortable paying. So if you can't get it down to this price, we're gonna have to leave. And Jonnie was like, all right, let's do that. So we said that and they came back and they gave us our price.

Amazing. And we were like, yeah. So yeah, they felt good. 'cause I think they still got what they needed to get. We felt good 'cause we felt like we were still in our range like, you know what I mean? So it was a good thing. And what I super appreciated [00:30:00] was, because typically in the car buying experience, and this is a whole pain in the ass, is that once you're done with that part of it, then you gotta go in with the finance guy that does all the paperwork, who tries to sell you the warranty, more stuff and all this other stuff.

And here's what I appreciated. So on the first day we work with Isaac and again, he's gotta try, he tried to send me the warranty and I was upset because like for some reason I thought Emily was coming with me, but she didn't. So it was just me and Isaac. 'cause I wanted her to go through, through that experience.

Where was she? She didn't realize that she was supposed to come and so she stayed with Alex and was talking to Alex.

Reese: Oh, okay.

Dave: I go in with a guy and I'm like, all right, tell me how much it is. 'cause I'm just curious how much it is. And it was like, it would've been like basically $2,000 more additional, right?

I'm like, okay. I just wanted to know how much it was. Like, we're not gonna do that. And I was explaining to Jonnie, I was like, the reason you get insurance is because you are afraid you won't have the money to take care of something that comes up.

Reese: Right?

Dave: But [00:31:00] if you have the money to take care of something, you don't really need the insurance.

Because if you do the math, like you're paying, let's say you paid the full price and you're paying $2,000 and you have a $500 thing that might happen, then you've lost $1,500, right? And what are the odds that you're gonna have something happen four times?

And even, so so if you have $500 and I'm just using numbers to make up a the scenario, right?

But if you have $500, why would you pay $2,000 to save yourself? $500. It's crazy. Like it doesn't make sense. So you don't really need that. And we've got the, both of the cars are like,

Reese: and these are such good lessons for them because I didn't, a lot of young adults don't get to have that experience.

Dave: And then part of it too is because the conversation is often around the, how much the monthly payment is. And then they wrap all of these other things into that monthly payment when you don't know you're really paying that, which ends up of course, being more than you fucking ever thought you would Course.

So anyway, what I appreciated about Maurizio. I love that was the guy that we talked with the of day. [00:32:00] So he was a twin,

Reese: even better as well.

Dave: So that was funny. He's like an identical twin as well. So he had that going for us. And Jonnie actually did come in with me.

And here's what I loved. I was like, holy fuck doing the paperwork. He's like, I saw what you did with the other car. 'cause we were just there. Right. I'm already a re a repeat business for them already.

Outro Music: Yeah.

Dave: He's like, we saw what you did. And so I'm gonna assume you're gonna do the same thing.

And I was like, yeah.

Reese: He was on top of it,

Dave: so he didn't bother to ask.

Reese: So smart.

Dave: And he, and I was like, and I said to him, I was like, Hey, thank you for not trying to love, I

Reese: love a good customer service for not trying to, it's so rare these days. And here I am mentioning them by name, especially with buying cars.

Dave: I was like, look, my wife and I will be in the market soon probably. We'll come see you guys, right? Yeah. Like, why not?

Reese: And then we just gave them a shout out on that. So that's what I'm saying. Yeah.

Dave: Thank you. Great experience. Good stuff there. The girls are over the moon. They're already out gallant and doing their things.

Reese: Emily went and got the car wash today and sent us a video. He sent us videos doing all of her, going through the car, like being in the car. I get, I, so for Easter, part of her [00:33:00] Easter basket, I ordered her a sticker with a cat and a ribbon and it says I was brave today. Because that's our joke. Yeah.

Where she'll make a phone call to the doctor's office and then she'll call me and she's mom, I called the doctor's office all by myself. Yeah. I was brave. And I'm like, I'm so proud of you. So she went through the car wash today, and let me tell you, I freak out going through the car wash while you're in.

It is. So overstimulating and horrifying that I'm so proud of her that she did it. And I recommended, I was like, next time you go through, you gotta play at the car wash because don't, but don't not my version of me singing it. 'cause that was terrible. But that song just hypes you up, but it makes you feel a little calmer while you're going through it. So I was, she was so excited. And then she sent the video of the car after and what it looked like. And as she's panning around and showing the car off, you see her boyfriend in the background

oh my

God. He's so over it. But amazing.

Dave: Listen they, they both look they both cars look great.[00:34:00]

Happy for them. I'm happy they have that and they, I'm excited for them and they deserve it. Yeah, totally. They

Reese: worked really hard for it

Dave: so

Reese: good for them.

Dave: So riddle, meas. Mm-hmm. Batman. Mm-hmm. Do you remember your first car? Am

Reese: I Batman or am I Robin, or am I the Ridler or the Joker?

Dave: I Midnight toker.

Nah. I did say riddle me this Batman, which would imply that you're Batman.

Reese: But I'm just saying, am I Batman? You're, it's more like a question, so I guess I'm the ridler.

Dave: Oh I'm, I'm Well, what?

Reese: You're fart man.

Dave: I'm fart man.

Reese: Mm

Dave: mm

Reese: I'm cartt, man.

Dave: Yeah. You're cartman. All right. Wow.

Reese: Yeah.

So what

am I riddling you?

Dave: Oh my God. The question I asked. Yes. That's how riddles work.

Reese: I know. Did you get the question out? 'cause I was so busy talking. I didn't hear it. What was it

Dave: exactly? Do you remember? Yeah. Your first car.

Reese: Of course I do.

Dave: Why don't you share it with us?

Reese: Oh, sure. It was a champagne [00:35:00] colored. Car. .

It was like one of those, it was like a little sparkly, if the sun hit it just right. It had like sparkles in it. So weird. Like your eyes? Yeah, like my eyes, like my personality. Yeah.

Dave: Uhhuh.

Reese: And it was a

Dave: champagne personality.

Reese: Yeah, it was a, um, c Champagne beers, Ola Baron. Oh. It had a red seating and it wasn't the LeBaron that was like, that was like, I guess there was like a popular lab baron at that time. That was a what's the car where the hood? The

Dave: convertible.

Reese: The convertible. It was not a convertible. Never in my life. I will say this. Would I ever want a convertible? I am not For the driving. Yeah. With the roof down and my hair.

Me? No, thank you. Me either. I'm not a fan of that. I don't need that much wind. I, we don't even like wind. Why would we get in a car back? You,

Dave: we don't even like, wind

Reese: gives you a win the entire time You're driving. Sorry. Personal, but,

Yeah, Christ, little Barr. My parents I think paid like $1,200 for it.

Dave: Was it a new car? Was it a used car? What did they do [00:36:00] for you?

Reese: I think it was a, I wanna say it was 1987 Le Baron. I'll look that up, but I think it was an 87 Le Baron and that car was bought in 90. 3 94.

And I got the car. First of all, I did not get my driver's license until I was like,

Dave: yeah, you were like, what?

You were old.

Reese: 19.

Dave: You were behind on a lot of things.

Reese: I because they,

I was not allowed to take driver's ed. All my friends had cars before me. And my parents' philosophy was she can just go get,

Dave: suck a duck.

Reese: Yeah. Get a ride with them. They did not want me driving.

Dave: No.

Reese: And they did not like that.

Dave: And I think,

Probably a lot of other people didn't either.

Reese: I was, I think

it was a great decision. Yeah. On their part. There was a lot of things they didn't let me do that I was really against. But I feel like in retrospect, but things made a lot of sense in retrospect. That was probably the best idea.

Uhhuh. Yeah. I got that car because. I was taking [00:37:00] the bus to college when I was going to Kingsborough and I would have these morning classes and I had to get up and take a half an hour bus ride for the college that was literally five minutes away. And I guess I was bitching and moaning so much that they were like, oh, Jesus Christ.

So they got me that I had to take one of those like driver's ed courses that was like in one of those storefronts.

And the woman that did get was like the driver's ed teacher. She was a character. She had dyed blonde hair. You could see her roots. She was a heavy set lady would smoke cigarettes out of the car while you're driving.

There was like a bunch of 15 year olds in the car. I was the oldest one. I'm pretty sure the day that I went to go get my do my driver's test, my, I could not, I was not allowed to use my father's car. So we had to use the car that, whatever car that they had that I can use. I don't know how I passed that test because I remember specifically, I definitely rolled past a stop [00:38:00] sign, and then when the guy said to me, I was like, oh, I'm fucked up.

I'm done. I'm not gonna be able to do it. He gets out and he is like, all right, you passed. I was like, what? I go to the s, jump outta the car. Didn't put the car in park. No. And still had the seatbelt on. Yeah.

Dave: Not good.

Reese: I get outta the car. The other idiots that took the test with me were the other idiot kids.

We all passed. We were like, what the fuck? We're pretty sure this woman, 'cause she constantly talked about her ex-husbands, we were pretty sure she was doing it with the guy from the DMV. I was like, this makes sense. And I called my parents on the payphone. I was like, can you guys come get me? I was like, near Coney Island.

I was like, can you guys come and get me? I passed my road test. I was so excited. And my father was like what drops the phone? I hear him in the background screaming to my mother. Oh my God. They let her have a they gave her a license. I don't believe it. My mother gets on the phone, she's you passed.

I was like, I did. I'm so excited off. Oh my God. Hung up on me. I'd walk home. [00:39:00] Crazy. The fact that they even got me the car was like a minor miracle. But whenever I passed, got the car that car lasted me for about a year or two.

Dave: Okay.

Reese: And the parts would like, I remember like one time I was driving, it was really hot in the summer and I went to go move the mirror.

And it came right off.

Dave: Nice.

Reese: So I was like that's not good. And then another time I was driving with my mother and the muffler fell out but was still somewhat attached. So it was just dragging. Yep. And I opened the windows to the car and I started blasting Spanish music.

My mom was like, oh my God. I'm like, can you get me a new car now? 'cause this is where we are. 'cause it, there's just sparks. I could see the sparks in the back of my car. And mom was like, oh my God. So it just happened to be that I didn't have a car for a while and, but I was going away to school.

When I came back that like first semester, second semester, whatever it was my mother hit the number, I think she played the house number 2, 2 7.

And won money and bought [00:40:00] me the Geo Metro.

Dave: Ah, I remember the Geo Metro, the Green Geo Metro. Yeah.

Reese: The look,

Dave: remember the girls on the Geo Metro?

Reese: Yes. So the Le Baron's, I called the the Le Baron's car name was Priscilla.

Dave: Okay.

Reese: And the green car was Elvis sometimes called you know what, I'm not gonna, I guess I could say it. My parents are dead, so it doesn't matter. Oh. We used to call it the Easy Bake Oven, and I'll just leave it at that, but okay.

You get it now. Okay. But yeah it, I called it Elvis 'cause the other car was Priscilla. So that was my first car was Silla Baron. Okay. Second car was the Geo Metro. Which I love. The geo metro. That car was cute.

Dave: And then funnily enough then it would've been any cars we bought together right at that after.

So you really had these two cars after? Yeah. Oh, wow.

Reese: Yeah. I did not go through a lot of cars 'cause my parents were not happy with me being in a car that wasn't involving them in some way. Also, again, totally understandable. [00:41:00] What about you? What was your first car?

Dave: I wanna say my first car.

I think this is the order I can't, so again, I'm very the details

Reese: of How many cars did you have?

Dave: I wanna say I would've had, I guess I would've had two.

Reese: Okay. Make it seem like you had four or five.

Dave: No because I'm thinking of, 'cause there were times where, of course I had my license, but I was borrowing like Stan's car, for example.

Gotcha. So I can tell a story about that, which I think I've, this before, oh. Was never allowed

Reese: to borrow my father's car, ever. So I

Dave: borrowed a car and then I would've had, I think the first, I think the first car I got was. The Oldsmobile Bram, was that the Yeah, the one. The one that you started with the screwdriver?

Mm-hmm. And had the, how much

Reese: did it cost you the car? A

Dave: dollar. A dollar. It was a caravan. Mm-hmm. Inside. 'cause like the ceiling stuff was like hanging off the ceilings. And then the one time the bumper just fell off and I had to sit in the trunk while somebody else drove it so we could get it to the home.

Reese: Fantastic.

Dave: And that was the one that

Reese: must have been picking up chicks like [00:42:00] crazy?

Dave: Oh yeah. The best was I, at the time I was working with the Diodatis, I was working for the construction company and so they would say, okay, we got a job here on this day. And so it was during the summer when I'd be working for them.

And the joke was, I can always tell how long you've been here by the amount of smoke that is billowing out of the hood when we show up. Yeah. So because it had a leaky gasket, then using my technical terms. Oh, even it had a leaky gasket. It had a leaky gasket and it would the engine would get hot, then the oil would burn off when you stop the car.

Reese: Fantastic. Yeah.

Dave: So that was fun.

Reese: Great. For the environment. Definitely. So good. So good. So

Dave: definitely a, a chick magnet. And then the other car that I had that I really liked,

and I'm trying to think and then I had a car that it got wrecked and I, was it the, so this is why I think

I did, I have three or two, but, so I had a, and I think I would've gotten this from my uncle, Brad and Linda. It would've, it was like an older [00:43:00] car of theirs that they, upgraded and I think they would always, whenever they were getting, 'cause I think at one time they asked if we wanted their Honda pilot, right? Mm-hmm. When, When we were looking for cars and I was like, eh, we can't really swing that.

They, I think I got from them a Buick Skylark. Ooh. It was a blue Buick Skylark. A

Reese: Buick Skylar. Yeah. I love that car. Do you know what that's from? No, the Skylar is from my cousin Vinny. Oh

Dave: boy. Thank goodness. Mm-hmm. You, You think that you're here. Mm-hmm.

Reese: And

Dave: so that car I really liked and that had a little sunroof.

That had a little thing and that was a fun car to drive. I enjoyed that. And I'm trying to remember if that was the car that when I was driving to, I was driving up to New Hampshire again with the Diodatis. They had a house up there that a bunch of our friends were staying, like Erik was there and Mike Diodati, I dunno if Mundo was there, Mundo might have been there.

And we were going up there. I had just done a show. I did a play, I was at Northern Essex at the time. I had done a show and then it was after the show [00:44:00] I was gonna drive up and meet them. So I was like, middle of the night. Not a lot of people on the road. Snowing, icy. I ended up on a, it was a two-lane highway, right?

Meaning that it was oncoming traffic. Mm-hmm. Like Two direction, right? Mm-hmm. So there was, you know, and the car started to spin out.

Reese: Yeah, that's awful.

Dave: And it's just like fully, 360

Reese: and you're not supposed to put your foot on the brake, right?

Dave: I didn't. I didn't. Yeah. I,

I was lucky because I ended up

Reese: Because the brakes didn't work. No,

Dave: I ended up, I ended up going, the front end of the car ended up hitting the guardrail, so it went off the road instead of across the way. Which was great. And luckily, again, there wasn't a lot of traffic, but somebody eventually was coming towards us. It hit the guardrail and it ripped off the whole front end of the car.

Reese: Oh geez.

Dave: And then luckily somebody eventually was coming up behind me and they ended up calling the p like this was, we didn't have cell phones.

Reese: Right.

How the hell did they call the police?

Dave: [00:45:00] So somebody in

Reese: one of those

like big, huge

eighties,

Dave: I think somebody went ahead and then told somebody and then the police came out.

Reese: Oh. Oh, okay.

Dave: And they came and got me, and then I was exactly in this like equidistant place between home and the place I was going to.

Reese: Right.

Dave: And so that's when I had called them and I'm like, can someone come pick me up?

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: And they had to come pick me up at the police station. And then, oh geez. The next day my dad came out and we went to the, basically we went and looked at the car and then we sold it for junk.

And so I don't remember if I got a car after that. That's what I'm, that's where I'm, I don't remember. I can't remember because at that point it was like I was gonna be leaving and moving to New York. And so I think I didn't get a car. And I think I was just borrowing cars or something. I don't know what the thing was, but I.

And then I was psyched to not, 'cause again, not a car guy, I was psyched to not have a car while I was in New York and I didn't get a car again.

Reese: You can't have a car in New York really?

Dave: Until we moved to Brooklyn. Really? 'cause we had your geo metro for a while. And it wasn't until

Reese: I'll tell you,

Dave: we had the girls that we needed more [00:46:00] room.

Reese: I think something between think i the Geo Metro, like twice in Manhattan. I was not a person who would drive into New York for anything. It was usually Ruth Ann and I having an adventure in her car. I did not feel comfortable driving in Manhattan. I think the of both times that I drove in New York, both we're with our friend George.

This, the first or second time I drove accidentally. And this is before GPS even before MapQuest where like you printed out the paper and you were the worst distracted driver ever trying to read the printed out directions. It was him telling me, make a turn here. I made a turn. I was going up the wrong way on a one way street.

And all the cabs, they don't play chicken, they just come, there's no chicken. Oh yeah, they do. They just come right out. You're like, oh my God. And I was like, oh, okay. Never again. No, not, you don't need a car. And anyway, you got the subway. So it's

Dave: that's it. I was psyched not to have to worry about a car and then to be able to get anywhere I [00:47:00] wanted to go, either by walking or by taking the subway.

That's the one of the things that I love most about New York at the time.

And then the irony is that when we got the next car, which was that blue car? It was

the blue car. What was that?

It was a, that was a Chevy.

Reese: That wasn't a great car. That was not a great car.

Dave: No. Didn't, I didn't

like that car at all.

Reese: Didn't like it.

Dave: Yeah. We ended up really not liking that car.

Reese: We didn't like that car. And we got that car because we're like,

Dave: just 'cause it was

it. It looked big, but there was really no room in it.

Reese: There was no room. And so we got the car thinking, oh, there's gonna be room there. Because every time we would drive to your family's for Christmas Eve.

Yeah. The Geo Metro couldn't handle. Yeah. The girls would get like all these Christmas gifts and we'd be like struggling to find room. There was no anything. So we're like, oh, we'll get this bigger car now. We got, girls are getting bigger. There was no room in that car either.

Dave: Remember when we had that little place at the corner when we lived in Queens that we rented the car? Like we would rent like a van. Do you remember that place? No. Yeah. There used to be a place in the corner on the street that we lived on, and we would go there [00:48:00] and when we would take the trip to Massachusetts, we would rent a car from them to

Reese: Is this with your other wife?

Dave & Reese: Yeah. This is I don't, I'm gaslighting this another timeline. I think you're gas.

I'm ghost lighting. You now ghost

gaslighting me. Again, don't guess ghosting

you. I don't ghost gassing. I don't

what?

Reese: I don't remember that.

Dave: There was a time where we used to do that.

Reese: I remember when we had the, when the girls were in.

The NICU when they were coming home that night and we got the flat tire. We got the

Dave: flat tire and we went to that place. We had to call and be like, Hey. We just got a flat tire. We're not gonna be able to make it in to pick up the kids. I know. It was the one time we visited the girls there and three that was the thing.

We had to, we drove from,

Reese: for two months. We were there every night.

Dave: We drove from Queens to Brooklyn in horrible traffic. Yeah. Every night to go see them every night.

Reese: And then the one night when they were coming home, we got the flat tire. I'm like,

Dave: yeah, that was of course.

Reese: But yeah. All right then. And then we got the Led Zeppelin.

Dave: Then we, so that one was my favorite car.

Reese: The only thing I didn't like about that car, 'cause it was the mom [00:49:00] van. I know. The only thing I didn't was like, the sliding doors sometimes did not

Dave: work. So the sliding doors would get finicky

Reese: and it wouldn't. And it would,

Dave: but aside from that, yeah,

Reese: it was a good car.

Dave: It drove great. It had so much room. Yeah. It was like, there's so much room for activities. I know.

Reese: And it had the, we had the little TVs in the back of the car that we had was,

Dave: I love that car. It was so much honestly I was like, I was sad when we got rid of it.

Reese: I was sad, but I not

Dave: because we, when we were here for a while too, didn't we?

Reese: We did. We had it for some time. Finally we

Dave: were like, okay, we gotta, it's too big. We don't need this much room now.

Reese: Yeah, because I love that car. I think you, you took that car with you. I didn't have a car in Brooklyn When you were here with the girls. That's right. 'cause you needed to have that car. That's right.

I brought that. Yeah. And then we got here, and then we needed to have two different cars because then we were working.

Dave: You know what I loved about that too? It was like, anytime we do a road trip or something like that with we all right, we'll drive. We can, we'd b we'd fill everybody into that car because we could hold so many people.

Yeah. I loved that car. Yeah, it was, that would've, that would've been my favorite car. I think.

Reese: I think a modernized version of that car would, would've been even better. I'm sure they're still [00:50:00]amazing,

Dave: but but it was pretty modern at the time of Got it. I to, I wanna say it was probably like a 2001 or something like that.

It's gotta be more than that. I don't remember better than that. I don't know. I don't know what it was, but it was good. I love that car. I had

Reese: good memories. I do love the car that I have now.

Dave: Yeah, I like the car you have now. I mean, Again, I'm not a car person. The Ford Escape, so I feel the Ford Escape. I love,

Reese: so let me, and it's not the color I wanted, but then I've grown fond of it.

Dave: It's all, these are all perfectly working car. Yeah. So let me ask you this. Yes. Because I we're, we're getting, we're longer in the tooth. Okay. With this discussion. What, so I wanna ask you this. I'm gonna say one thing real quick. So there's a lot of people, again, I think if you're a car person, you want a manual.

If you're not e

Reese: Emmanuel Lewis, you want

Dave: Emmanuel Lewis. And if you're not, you want Gary Coleman.

Reese: Exactly. Totally. So I think that's the way it goes. Totally.

Dave: No, an automatic.

Reese: Yeah. A stick shift sounds terrible. So I've been in a stick shift. I don't like it. I can,

Dave: I can drive a stick shift.

It's been a while since I've done it, but I can do it.

Reese: It hurts.

Dave: I just do not see

Why any

reason to do that in a normal environment. So there there's just no reason.

Reese: So there's a thing here. We have some questions and stuff [00:51:00] like that. And one talks about like car culture and identity. And I think people listen, no offense, but people with the stick shift. I think it's a power move. I think it's like having the

Dave: There's the, the,

Reese: it's like having the cyber truck. It's a power move because you can, it's a certain, you can drive a stick. Yes.

And I feel like you're just like, oh, I'm better than you. I know how to it.

'cause you put, there's no way I would ever wanna learn any of it. You gotta use both the pedals. It's you too many things you're doing. No, thank you.

Dave: Let me ask you this.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: And then we'll close on this. Oh, was there ever any car that was like a dream car to you that you really ever wanted or lusted after?

Reese: No, I never really lusted after anything. I do feel like there, I always pictured myself having like, a, a Volkswagen bug.

Dave: Oh, okay. Yeah, I could see that for you.

Reese: I always wanted but like the old school ones, maybe

Dave: your next car could be a Volkswagen bug.

Reese: I always love the newer ones now.

I always thought of the older ones.

Dave: Although I have to say, I don't think I would [00:52:00] ever buy a Volkswagen now. '

Reese: cause

Dave: because they had that whole like thing where they just lied about their cars to people or something like that.

Reese: Oh, the fact that Volkswagen also was a car that was used by Hitler and the Nazis?

Dave: Oh, I don't know.

Reese: Oh, that's a thing.

Dave: Yeah.

Reese: But no I like the newer ones now too. I always thought it was like super cute that they had a little vase and you could put the flowers in it. I was like, that's Kia.

Dave: I remember there was one time, I think when I was looking for a replacement car that I did go drive a Volkswagen bug, but I was just this really shady fucking guy.

But I did drive the car and I was like, oh, this is actually really fun to drive. Like the engine had, I've never driven one. It felt good,

Reese: would be okay in one of those.

Dave: Yeah. The reason

Reese: because I feel like if I'm ever gonna get like another car after this one. That would be the car I'd go, drive.

Drive.

Dave: The reason I couldn't take it seriously, I was like, there's just, there's no room. And it was like a time when we were still trying to buy a car that would be work for the family.

Reese: There was a time where before like you and I got serious, I was looking at the mini Coopers.

Oh yeah.

But I was

like, we can't really do anything in [00:53:00] it'd be perfect for me.

Dave: So that's what I'm saying, like now that the girls have their own cars and it's just gonna be you, when it's time to get a new one, you could get something that's like just fun for you to drive.

Reese: Yeah.

Dave: You know what I mean? That you don't really need to worry about anybody else.

Reese: If anything, it would probably be the bug, but I don't know. Say

Dave: so I would say this. I have always, for some reason growing up I was always attracted they don't exist anymore. But I was always the pinto. No. Yeah. I was always attracted to pinto beans

Reese: though. Yes. Oh, the pinto beans. Those I really love.

Yes. Those are fun to drive. No, I

Dave: was, I was drive through your colon.

Reese: They stink.

Dave: I, I was, I always loved the look of a Saab.

Reese: Ah, interesting. I like those. Interesting.

Dave: And you know who had one was Kevin Forward.

Reese: Oh, Kevin. Yeah. He seems like he would have one of those.

Dave: Yeah. And I always want, I always just I felt like that would be the kind of car that I would drive.

Reese: You'd be a Saab, Saab guy.

Dave: And now I

kind of

like, I kind of like, I kind of like the BMW.

Reese: Yeah. I don't know if I could all of that,

Dave: but I would never buy one. I don't think I, but

Reese: it's so funny, one of my [00:54:00] students, I was coming outta my car, right? Yeah. And I, one of my students is walking past the car sees me and she's like, this is your car.

I'm like, yeah. Why? She's like. I can't believe you're driving this car. I expected you to be driving like A BMW or yeah, a Mercedes or something. And I was like,

Dave: I just want something that me

Reese: never makes sense. I was like, I have a baby Yoda gro goo sticker on there. And a thing that, you know when you, yeah.

What is that called? The code where you use your camera and it takes you to Spotify and it plays

Dave: it's a, it's like a QR code, but not really. It's like

Reese: a QR code and it plays,

Dave: it's a Spotify code is what it's,

Reese: it plays move by Ludicrous. Yeah, because I just think that is,

Dave: you have, you, you

Reese: amazing

Dave: you, your car's a laugh riot

Reese: really is.

Dave: You would, did you rename your car recently?

Reese: I didn't rename it yet. I do.

Dave: You did, I You came up with something the other day.

Reese: Did I? What did I say?

Dave: And I forgot what you said. You, oh God. I was, you ready, chewy?

Reese: Oh, I did say [00:55:00] Chewy

Dave: Chewbacca.

Reese: Because you know what? And I think it's gonna, I think we have to christen it, Chewbacca and I have to get the belt.

Dave: You have to get those things filled.

Reese: I have you get the strap for the seatbelt that has the Sure. You Chewbacca for sure. You do. Yeah. So yeah, I just also ordered myself a magnetic bumper sticker that says, please don't honk at me. My father's dead.

Dave: Oh, you actually bought it?

I bought it. Excellent. I did it good Because you know when I get honked at a lot and, if I don't make

Reese: dead, dad jokes, then what is the point of living?

Dave: What is,

Reese: my dad couldn't tell me 'cause he is dead. So

Dave: the point of living, I'll say this. Friends, whatever you do with your cars, we're happy for you. I am, again I'm happy we to have something that gets us from point A to point B. That's all I really need.

Reese: What's what's your dream car? Let us know what your dream car is.

Dave: Yeah. Let us know what your dream car would be and if you even have your dream car at this point in your life, that's also amazing. Good for you. Good for you.

Reese: Good for you.

Dave: Girls excited for you. Yay. Enjoy your time with your new car.

Take good care of it. [00:56:00] We've already got them and I know they will. We already got them in the cycle of look, you just gotta keep care of it. You'll have it forever. And then you know it.

Dave & Reese: Jonnie already ordered all the pink things. Oh yeah. That you can's like, I can't wait to accessorize your car with, so to make it pretty inside

and girly.

So exciting. Yeah.

Dave: So, Hey friends wherever you're driving,

Reese: drive safely.

Dave: Drive safely. So put your fucking phone down. Oh my God. I can't tell you how many people we saw looking at their phones. Seriously, it drives me insane. But anyway remember friends. Life is a group project. Be kind to each other.

Beep. Beep.
