If you listened to Ep. 147: An STD of Love (Happy Valentine’s Day) on our couples podcast, you already know this wasn’t a quiet, candlelit evening.
There was a towed car.
There was snow drama.
There was Chick-fil-A timing chaos.
But there was also a really good cocktail.
This is the drink we made before pulling couples question cards and diving into one of our more unhinged Valentine’s episodes.
It's called:
The French Kiss Martini
Light. Floral. Slightly romantic. Slightly ridiculous.
Basically the liquid version of couple humor.
###
French Kiss Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients
-
2 oz gin
-
1 oz elderflower liqueur (like St-Germain)
-
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
-
2–3 drops rosewater
-
Ice
-
Optional: lemon twist or edible flower
Simple. Clean. No nonsense.
###
How to Make This Valentine’s Day Martini
-
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
-
Add gin, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, and rosewater.
-
Shake well. Commit to it.
-
Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
-
Garnish if you want to feel fancy.
Then sit down with your person and ask a question you’ve never asked before.
That’s usually where the real relationships stuff starts.
###
What This Cocktail Tastes Like
-
Bright citrus from the lemon
-
Soft floral sweetness from elderflower
-
A subtle rose finish that feels intentional
It’s not sugary.
It’s not heavy.
It goes down very easily.
Dangerously easily, actually.
###
A Quick Note on Rosewater
Use restraint.
Two drops is romantic.
Six drops is perfume.
Start small. Taste. Adjust.
And yes, ours may or may not have been past its best-by date.
We live boldly over here.
###
A Cocktail for Couples Who Don’t Do Valentine’s Day
We don’t go big for Valentine’s Day.
No reservations.
No dramatic gestures.
No pressure.
Just staying home. Making something good. Talking. Laughing. Processing life in real time.
That’s kind of the point of our couples podcast. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about showing up and being honest.
Sometimes that honesty includes stories about early dating disasters. Sometimes it includes tow trucks.
Sometimes it includes comparing love to an STD you can’t get rid of.
Which, if you think about it, is kind of romantic.
