Featured Cocktail: Black Velvet

Black Velvet (Hard Cider + Guinness)

Some drinks try too hard.

This one doesn’t.

The Black Velvet is simple, a little unexpected, and way better than it has any right to be. Just like a lot of the moments we talked about in this episode.

You’ve got two ingredients that don’t seem like they belong together… until they do.

Sound familiar?

What is a Black Velvet?

Traditionally, a Black Velvet is made with champagne and Guinness.

This version swaps in hard cider, which gives it a smoother, slightly sweeter edge that’s a lot more approachable.

It’s less “fancy bar” and more “this actually works.”

What you’ll need

  • 1/2 glass hard cider (cold)
  • 1/2 glass Guinness (cold)

That’s it.

No garnish. No extras. Don’t overcomplicate it.

How to make it

  1. Pour the hard cider into a pint glass (fill halfway)
  2. Slowly pour the Guinness over the back of a spoon so it floats on top
  3. Let it settle for a clean, layered look

Take a second before you drink it. It looks cool. You earned that.

What it tastes like

This is where people get surprised.

  • The cider brings brightness and a little sweetness
  • The Guinness adds depth, smoothness, and that roasted finish
  • Together, it’s balanced, slightly creamy, and really easy to drink

It shouldn’t work as well as it does. But it does.

Why this fits the episode

In this episode, we’re talking about hearing the same thing… and walking away with completely different reactions.

This drink kind of does the same thing.

Two distinct parts. One combined experience.

And depending on your taste, you might lean one way or the other.

So, here’s your action item:

Try it.

Seriously. It takes two minutes.

Then tell us what you think:

  • Does it work for you?
  • Or are you firmly on one side of the glass?
