Featured Cocktail: Classic Vodka Martini

If there’s one cocktail that screams “grown-up,” it’s the classic vodka martini. It’s simple, crisp, and dangerously easy to fall in love with—especially when you’re recording a new episode and need a little liquid courage. On Episode 126 of Manic Joy, we toasted with the martini, and now we’re sharing our go-to recipe so you can join us in style.

The Story Behind Our Sip

Confession: Neither of us really “got” martinis until recently. In our twenties? Pass. But somewhere along the way, we discovered that a perfectly chilled vodka martini, dry and served with olives, can turn an ordinary evening into something worth celebrating—even if the only thing on your agenda is a little fast food nostalgia.

So, here’s how we make ours.

###

Classic Vodka Martini Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ oz vodka

  • ½ oz dry vermouth

  • Ice

  • Olives (for garnish)

  • Lemon twist (optional, if you’re feeling fancy)

Instructions:

  1. Chill your glass.

Pop your martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water for a few minutes. Cold is the name of the game.

  2. Mix it up.

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, combine the vodka and dry vermouth. Fill with ice and stir (or shake, if you’re feeling rebellious) until well chilled.

  3. Strain & pour.

Dump the ice from your martini glass and strain the drink into the glass.

  4. Garnish.

Drop in a couple of olives—or go wild and add a lemon twist.

  5. Sip & enjoy.

Take a sip. Smile. Try not to judge each other’s fast food rankings.

Martini Pro Tips from Dave & Reese:

  • Go dry if you like it less briny: use less vermouth.

  • Make it dirty by adding a splash of olive brine.

  • Quality vodka matters. Treat yourself.

  • If your cat sheds on your sweater, just pretend it’s part of the garnish.
